Research Molecular Biologist 509-664-2280 Physiology and Pathology of Tree Fruit Research Unit 1104 N. Western Ave., Wenatchee, WA 98801 http://www.ars.usda.gov/pandp/people/people.htm?personid=38746

Dr. Zhu’s research interests include:

  • Deploying resistant rootstock is the environmental-friendly, cost effective and durable method to control apple replant disease (ARD);
  • Characterizing apple root resistant phenotypes at biological, microscopic and biochemical levels;
  • Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the resistance in apple root to ARD pathogen complex using genomic, transcriptomic and metabolic approaches;
  • Identifying specific genes and validate their roles in differentiating resistance and susceptibility during molecular interactions between apple roots and ARD pathogens;
  • Developing molecular tools to assist breeding resistant apple rootstock.
