Dr. Zhu’s research interests include:
- Deploying resistant rootstock is the environmental-friendly, cost effective and durable method to control apple replant disease (ARD);
- Characterizing apple root resistant phenotypes at biological, microscopic and biochemical levels;
- Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the resistance in apple root to ARD pathogen complex using genomic, transcriptomic and metabolic approaches;
- Identifying specific genes and validate their roles in differentiating resistance and susceptibility during molecular interactions between apple roots and ARD pathogens;
- Developing molecular tools to assist breeding resistant apple rootstock.
