Stephen Bramwell
Master of Sciences, Washington State University, Crop and Soil SciencesStephen Bramwell is the County Director and Regional Agriculture Specialist for Washington State University Thurston County Extension. He earned an MS in Soil Science from Washington State University and a BA in International Community Development at the University of Washington Jackson School of International Studies.
Areas of research and extension include use of conservation grazing for rare species and habitat protection in semi-natural grasslands in Western Washington and Oregon; soil health management practices for grasslands, pastures, row crop production, and gardening for self-sufficiency; market development and farmer cooperatives for local agriculture and food access, including farm-to-school initiatives; specialty grain production, new farmer training, agriculture workforce development.
Recent projects include:
- Development conservation grazing strategies for habitat protection in Southwestern Washington prairie ecosystems
- Establishment of the SW Washington Grazing Association
- Work with the SW WA Food Hub and Growers Cooperative to launch multi-farm produce boxes and Workplace Wellness Programj
- Feasibility assessment for community-scale, minimally processed fruit and vegetables for minor vegetable growing regions
