Melba R. Salazar-Gutierrez is an Assistant Research Professor at Washington State University. She has been with the Biological Systems Engineering Department since 2010; she is also a member of the Viticulture and Enology Program and is based out of the WSU Prosser Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (WSU Prosser IAREC).

Her research responsibilities are industry-driven and cover all aspects of crop modeling including the phenology and development of apples, cherries and grapes and focus on applied models to improve the management practices of tree fruit management. This responsibility entails the timely dissemination of information to growers and industry. Her experience includes cold hardiness model for apples and cherries and phenological aspects of apple and grapes. She is a Biologist, specialized in Statistics with a PhD in Crop Physiology from the National University of Colombia.
