About Me

Danial E. Baker, PharmD, FASCP, FASHP received his Bachelor of Pharmacy from Washington State University (WSU) in Spokane, Washington, and his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Baker has been the director of WSU’s Drug Information Center since 1983 and is a Distinguished Regents Professor at WSU. He is also an adjunct professor for Gulf Medical University’s College of Pharmacy.

Dr. Baker is an assistant editor for Hospital Pharmacy. He is an editorial board member for Facts & Comparisons, The Formulary Monograph Service, and Hospital Pharmacy. Dr. Baker is the advisory board for Accredo Therapeutics’ Specialty Drug Advisory Board. He was a member of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Committee of Experts on Healthcare Quality and Safety, the Medicare Model Guidelines committee, and the USP Drug Classification (USP DC) Expert Panel from 2015 to 2020. He is currently on the USP Healthcare Safety and Quality Expert Committee (Vice-Chair) and Chair of the USP DC subcommittee for 2020-2025. He is also a peer reviewer for the various pharmacy and medical journals and professional associations.

He has served on the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee for Medco Health Solutions, LLC for 17 years, Washington State’s Drug Review Advisory Committee for three years, Washington State’s Drug Utilization and Education Council for 4 years, IHC Health Plans for 2 years, and Whatcom Medical Bureau’s Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee for three years. He has been a member of advisory boards or panels for various pharmaceutical manufacturers including Searle Pharmaceuticals, Upjohn, Astra, Syntex, Wyeth, Novartis, and Pharmacia.

He has published over 2700 papers in various pharmacy and medical journals, drug information systems, and textbooks. His professional focus has been drug information, managed care, evidence-based medicine, and outdoor emergency medical care.

Dr. Baker received numerous awards and honors including the Smith, Kline & French Laboratories Award for Superior Achievement in Clinical Pharmacy, WSPA Pharmacist of the Year, WSU Faculty Excellence Award, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the World, United States Pharmacopeia’s Thomas S. Foster Award, and numerous awards and recognitions from the National Ski Patrol. In 2021, he became the first pharmacy faculty member to be promoted to the rank of Regents Professor at WSU. He is a fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists.

I enjoy Skiing, hiking, cycling, and photography and in my spare time I am part of the Ski Patrol at 49 Degrees North and Bike Patrol at Route of the Hiawatha.
